What do you get?
Always one for keeping a look out for things I can use for my wargaming.
I was pleasently surprised to have been given a set of Easter
Island heads as a gift. The heads are intended as an executive
toy for office workers to place on their desks at work. Produced
by Running Press this is kit is part of a range of similar desktop
landmarks (Stone Henge, Hagging Gardens of Babylon etc.)
Contained in the box are four Easter Islands stone heads and a
small booklet about the origin of the actual Easter Island monuments.
They are made of some kind of resin and tecnically already painted.
Well they have a grey undercoat on them. The texture of the stones
is quite pitted, I would have prefered a simple grainy finish
on them (more like sandstone). The sculpting is crude but in line
with the subject matter and all four of the heads are slightly
different.

Fit for Purpose?
Here is a close up of the heads. You can see how pitted they are. But that is really my only criticism of this executive toy. That and I suppose if you pick this kit up at full price (RRP £4.99) then that is a £1.25 per stone head) might go against it. There is nothing stopping you filling a few of the holes or painting on a heavy undercoat to smooth them out a bit.
However despite those points I think the heads are useful from a gaming point of view as scenery for Historical, Pulp and Fantasy gaming.

You can see from the picture the tallest head is about 55mm high (the shortest just a few millimetres shorter).
To help with the scale I've placed Otherworld 28mm skeleton. Perhaps a bit small at this scale. The picture below sees the heads alongside Pendraken 10mm fantasy miniatures.
The final word.
If you can pick these kits up cheap then I think they have many uses as wargaming terrain. However they would be faily easy to sculpt from scratch if you have the inclination. There doesn't seem to be many Easter Island head pieces offered by current wargaming manufacturers so these fill a (albiet) small niche in the market.
