What do you get?
The box arrives with the title on it of Steel Warriors. Inside
you get three plastic sprues with enough parts to make five
miniatures and five 20mm round bases. There are three different
body types and eleven different arms/weapons.

The parts are all inter-changeable so you can make an array
of different designs. The level of detailing on the miniatures
is good if a little soft. Although as far as I'm aware these
miniatures were first created back in the early 90's. So for
their age the detail is good. Mould lines are present but
the plastic is hard enough that they can be filed off easily.

Once removed from the sprues the arms (and in one case legs)
simply push on to the bodies and can be positioned to any angle
of elevation. A drop of super glue later and the miniatures
are ready to go. The image above shows the miniatures put together
straight out of the box.
How does it compare?
Regarding scale these miniatures can easily fit into a number of roles. The miniatures appear in the game Combat Zone which is a 28mm scale Sci-Fi skirmish game. In fact the comparison image shows the tallest of the robots (45mm in height) alongside an EM4 Trooper from Combat Zone. However the box the robots came in was called Steel Warriors and the artwork was more reminiscent of Battletech imagery. I have already painted up a set of these miniatures to act as mechs for both my 6mm and 2mm sci-fi armies. So they are quite versatile.
The final word.
People ask me why we sometimes do these reviews of miniatures that have been around for a while. The simple answer is everytime we do people e-mail us to say they never knew these miniatures existed. It is quite easy to assume old miniatures fall out of production but some stay quietly being produced year after year. Manufacturers are often busy advertising their new products and forget the usefulness of their back catalogue. These plastic mechs are a very good, cheap and an easy way of starting an army. Either as giant robots or power armoured troops in larger scale games.
