What do you get?
The Octopod command set contains 10 miniatures to be used as commanders for your Octopod troops. The miniatures in the pack contained a mixture of Octopod Officer with Rifle, pointing, Octopod Psyker with energy orb, Octopod Medic with apron and cleaver, Octopod Communications with radio and gear.

In the pack I got two each of the officers and psykers and three each of the medic and radio operator. The models had no flash on them and few mould lines. The models come cast on a base about 2mm thick.

Detail on the miniatures is a bit soft, but you can make out enough detail to identify the different miniatures (although the medic was hard to make out, mainly because I wasn't expecting it to be carrying a cleaver!).
The octopods stand at 18mm tall (not including the base).
How does it compare?
The Octopods fit in well with other 15mm miniatures. Although being alien gives them some size leeway. In the comparison shot we have the model alongside a UNSC trooper from GZG and a trooper from the Kaamados Squamata faction (Critical Mass Games), although to be fair the Kaamados miniature is supposed to be just over 3ft tall.
The final word.
I often find miniatures fit into a number of different categories,
either they are so detailed that my own painting skills wouldn't
do them justice or they do not have enough detail, so no paint
job will make up for it. But in the case of the octopods, the
miniatures potential is not realised until you start
to paint them. This command pack compliments the normal troopers
well although I did find the mix in the pack a little heavy
on medics and psykers rather than officers.
The number of 15mm science fiction miniatures available seems
to have doubled over the last couple of years. Which is good
because it gives the gamer a wide choice for creating their
armies. The octopods are a nice edition to the miniatures available
and the range from 15mm.co.uk
themselves is quite extensive with some nice alien races amongst
the usual armour clad human troopers. They also allow you to
buy individual 15mm miniatures which I think is rather useful
and unique amongst 15mm ranges.
