What do you get?

These little resin markers are a thing of beauty. Designed with Ambush Alley in mind, but useful across a whole range of different skirmish games, they are counters which can be placed on-table to represent (and apologies in advance for the video game teminology) "spawning points" for bad guys. Ambush Alley has them as hotspots where randomnly generated insurgent reinforcements arrive - and there are countless other games where points on-table are delineated in this way.
There are other ways, of course, to mark such places - but if you're into the aesthetic of gaming (and if you're not, why not??!) - these markers are a great alternative to making your own.
They are typical of S&S Models - well-scuplted with a great eye for detail and crisply moulded in a nice durable resin. Having been a fan of S&S Models for a while, I know that these clean up with a minimum of fuss - there was no 'flash' on the review pieces and only the bases needed a bit of attention - they will paint up superbly to blend in with your table and terrain.
There are five markers in the pack: each is numbered clearly but
unobtrusively and each is differently cluttered with a variety of
the detritus of modern urban battlefields: tyres, wheels, oil drums,
jerry cans, tarpaulins, boxes and corrugated iron sheeting. The
base size of the markers is consistent as well.
How do they compare?
If the alternative to these is making your own - or other simply
numbered counters which will stand out a mile on the tabletop
- then I think these are superb and great value at £4.50
(including UK P&P). An incredibly useful battlefield asset
which, while not essential to your gaming, will enhance your overall
experience.
The final word.
I love ultra-modern skirmishing - and a massive part of that,
for me, is trying to recreate the images we're bombarded with
of the modern urban battlefield. These game aids go a long way
to help with maintaining a degree of realism on the table so that
your lovely painted figures and terrain don't suffer the visual
jarring of a counter...your insurgents (other bad guys are available
etc) will be proud to rally to the cause from these markers.
S&S
Models are renowned for listening to their customers too
- and these markers have been made in response to several requests
from gamers, particularly from the Ambush Alley forum.
